Offline translation in Reshu: English, Hindi and Urdu
Reshu PDF Reader can translate document text between English, Hindi and Urdu. The translation models live on your phone, so after the one-time download, translating works without an internet connection.
Consent before download
Nothing downloads in the background. The first time you translate in a language pair, Reshu asks before fetching that language model. You choose each download, and you can decline. Once a model is downloaded, that pair works offline.
What is supported
Translation is available between English, Hindi and Urdu. Punjabi translation is not supported - the app can show Punjabi app text and can speak Punjabi text with an installed pa-IN voice, but it does not translate Punjabi. Translation between Hindi and Urdu goes through English as an intermediate step, which can blur fine detail.
Translation can be wrong
On-device models are smaller than cloud translation services, and any translation can lose meaning. Treat translated text as a help, not a final version. For study, legal, medical or financial documents, check the original or a trusted translation before acting on it.
Why offline matters
When translation runs on your phone, the text does not need to leave your device for that step. This is separate from speech voices: an online voice may still send reading text to its provider, so pair offline translation with an on-device voice if the document is sensitive.
Honest limits
Model downloads use storage and mobile data if you are not on Wi-Fi. Older phones translate more slowly. And as above: no Punjabi translation, and Hindi-Urdu goes through English. The app is free, so try it on a page you know well first.
